Election Day!

Today is the day when Americans head to the polls to cast their votes for our nation's politicians. I urge you to think twice before casting yours and please vote conservative! Please look at the long-term effects of your vote and vote accordingly!

By the way, please vote legally too. Although some corrupt officials would actually help you do it, committing voter fraud is against the law--please don't do it! That means don't vote twenty times or even twice, even if you're handed a ballot twice.

Four hundred and ninety-seven years ago, Martin Luther stood before the doors of the Wittenburg castle church and nailed his 95 theses up for all to read. This event sparked what we know today as the Reformation. What he was really doing was what we need courageous men to do today--stand up and call the Church back to the authority of the Bible alone! It's so sad that nowadays we have strayed so far from the standard that God has given us. We need a deep Reformation even today. Pray that God would send forth laborers to take a stand and boldly preach the Word of God for what it says!

Could Osama bin Laden Cross Our Borders?

Hey Americans! This should really make you feel safe! Wouldn't you hope that the Border Patrol would catch Osama bin Laden if he was crossing the Rio Grande into Texas? Yeah, I would hope they would, too. Well, watch this...

Pretty scary, isn't it? If someone like that can cross that river, who couldn't get aacross the border?

Well, as if that wasn't bad enough, it gets even better here...

I know that God is ultimately in control, but it is a little disturbing to actually have video footage of "terrorists" walking into our country in broad daylight and nobody stops them. Unbelievable!!!
Please leave a comment and tell me what you think!

Cowboy Museum

On Wednesday, I was privileged to be in Oklahoma City and visit the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. It is a huge museum--definitely worth a visit if you're ever in OKC. There was a lot of western-themed artwork which I liked. One of my favorite paintings was called Silence and Sagebrush. You can visit my Pinterest page and see a picture of the painting here. I really enjoyed looking at all the Western artwork. They had some paintings from Charles Russell, who grew up in St. Louis and went out West when he was 16. I also saw a huge sculpture of a cougar that had to be at least 20 feet high, made out of white marble. Indians, cowboys, mountains--you name it--the art gallery was truly an amazing collection.
The museum included a replica of an old Western town called Prosperity Junction. It was fun to see the way the bank, the church, the livery stable, etc., would have looked back then.
There were also a lot of things like guns, branding irons, a chuckwagon, and other cowboy-type things on display. There were decorated saddles on display/for sale.
I had a really enjoyable time! Let me know if you ever make it there!

"Anchors Aweigh!"

Please pray for my friend Sam! Lord-willing he will depart tomorrow to begin his new life in the United States Marine Corps. We have been anticipating this day for months now, but tomorrow is finally the big day.
Please pray that the Lord would give him the strength he needs to successfully complete his training, as well as for his safety and well-being both during training and after. Also pray that the Lord would use Sam as his messenger to those lost people that he will encounter in the Corps. And pray for his family and friends, too! =) Be thankful for people like Sam, who are willing to put their life on the line to defend and protect our country and liberty!
Before I know it, Sam will be able to say:
"First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
Of United States Marine."
May God bless you, Sam, on your new adventure!

Total Lunar Eclipse

Well, this morning God blessed me by allowing me to see a total lunar eclipse. It was beautiful and definitely worth getting up a few minutes earlier to watch it! =) I was able to see the earth's shadow just starting to cross over the moon, and gradually the moon got darker and darker. Eventually it was all covered over, and then I could see a thin crescent of light on one side while the other side remained in darkness. It had a little reddish hue--it almost looked like a giant planet Mars! I watched it until the moon sank below the clouds. What a blessing to see! I wish I could show you a picture of it.

"The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth His handiwork" (Psalm 19:1).

Were you privileged to see this eclipse this morning? If so, please leave a comment and tell me about it!

Pray For Big Things

Here is another devotional thought for today, again from the pen of my favorite 19th century preacher. I seem to remember hearing somewhere once that we ask great things from a great God. How true!
Please leave a comment and tell me how this makes a difference in your life!

Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it. (Psalm 81:10)

What an encouragement to pray! Our human notions would lead us to ask small things because our deservings are so small; but the Lord would have us request great blessings. Prayer should be as simple a matter as the opening of the mouth; it should be a natural, unconstrained utterance. When a man is earnest he opens his mouth wide, and our text urges us to be fervent in our supplications.

Yet it also means that we may make bold with God and ask many and large blessings at His hands, Read the whole verse, and see the argument: "I am Jehovah, thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it." Because the Lord has given us so much He invites us to ask for more, yea, to expect more.

See how the little birds in their nests seem to be all mouth when the mother comes to feed them. Let it be the same with us. Let us take in grace at every door. Let us drink it in as a sponge sucks up the water in which it lies. God is ready to fill us if we are only ready to be filled. Let our needs make us open our mouths; let our faintness cause us to open our mouths and pant; yea, let our alarm make us open our mouths with a child's cry. The opened mouth shall be filled by the Lord Himself. So be it unto us, O Lord, this day.

Devotional on Song of Solomon 5:2

The other day the Lord brought this devotion to my attention. It is by one of my favorite 19th century preachers. It gives encouragement to backsliding believers, a position I've found myself in often.
Has this spoken directly to you? Leave a comment and let me know how this has blessed you!

"I sleep, but my heart waketh."
Song of Solomon 5:2

Paradoxes abound in Christian experience, and here is one--the spouse was asleep, and yet she was awake. He only can read the believer's riddle who has ploughed with the heifer of his experience. The two points in this evening's text are--a mournful sleepiness and a hopeful wakefulness. I sleep. Through sin that dwelleth in us we may become lax in holy duties, slothful in religious exercises, dull in spiritual joys, and altogether supine and careless. This is a shameful state for one in whom the quickening Spirit dwells; and it is dangerous to the highest degree. Even wise virgins sometimes slumber, but it is high time for all to shake off the bands of sloth. It is to be feared that many believers lose their strength as Samson lost his locks, while sleeping on the lap of carnal security. With a perishing world around us, to sleep is cruel; with eternity so near at hand, it is madness. Yet we are none of us so much awake as we should be; a few thunder-claps would do us all good, and it may be, unless we soon bestir ourselves, we shall have them in the form of war, or pestilence, or personal bereavements and losses. O that we may leave forever the couch of fleshly ease, and go forth with flaming torches to meet the coming Bridegroom! My heart waketh. This is a happy sign. Life is not extinct, though sadly smothered. When our renewed heart struggles against our natural heaviness, we should be grateful to sovereign grace for keeping a little vitality within the body of this death. Jesus will hear our hearts, will help our hearts, will visit our hearts; for the voice of the wakeful heart is really the voice of our Beloved, saying, "Open to me." Holy zeal will surely unbar the door.

"Oh lovely attitude! He stands

With melting heart and laden hands;

My soul forsakes her every sin;

And lets the heavenly stranger in."

Hey Democrats! Look at This

Recently there has been a disturbing trend amomg our US wildlife. Creatures that formerly sustained themselves now seem perfectly happy to just sit down and wait their turn for a "free" government handout.

Freedom is not free!

I recently came across a song that really gripped me. It truly illustrated what our freedom here in America really costs (and has cost). Freedom truly is not free.

"Freedom Is Not Free!"

If you're interested in the song and its author, here is the author's website, and here is where you can purchase the album that the song is on.

Celebrating Freedom

Many of us are no doubt excited about celebrating our nation's freedom tomorrow,  Lord-willing. We can certainly thank the Lord for all the freedoms that we enjoy in this country that are unknown in other parts of the world.

I wanted to share with my readers some verses from the Bible that touch on t
he subject of liberty and freedom. Please take a moment to think about what these verses really mean.

"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed" (John 8:36).

"The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death"(Romans 8:2).

"Where the Spirit of the Lord is,  there is liberty" (2 Corinthians 3:17).

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty where with Christ hath made us free" (Galatians 5:1).

For those who are Christians, we are free men and servants at the same time! That's one of the wonderful paradoxes of the Christian faith. Read Romans 6:15-23 to see what I mean!

Have a safe and wonderful holiday weekend!!!!
